TV musicians originally were not able to afford the fancy recording studios. So the bad quality of recording to some extent hampered their work i.e. It could not be easily compared with film songs (this now happens even between movie MDs:( ).Anyways, with the advent of digital technology and Digital Audio Workstations I think TV musicians will be able to afford good recording and hopefully we can easily compare them with film MDs.
When this happens there will be enough number of music directors to go around and hopefully we will have distinct styles evolving and probably the concept of bands will pick up.
